Frequently asked questions

I can't decrypt a document โ€” what should I check?

Make sure you're entering the correct identity information: the owner's ID number and date of birth (from their physical ID card), plus your own ID number and date of birth. All dates must be in CE format (YYYY-MM-DD). If the document uses 3-factor encryption, you also need the secret phrase.

Is my data safe? Who can see my documents?

Your documents are encrypted on your device before being uploaded to your own Google Drive. Nobody โ€” not us, not Google โ€” can read the encrypted contents. Only someone with the correct identity information can decrypt them.

Can I recover a deleted document?

Deleted documents are moved to your Google Drive trash and can be recovered within 30 days. After that, they are permanently deleted.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Go to Settings in the app and tap "Manage subscription". This opens the billing portal where you can cancel, change plans, or update payment methods. You can also email support@testament-app.com for help.

I'm a recipient โ€” do I need to pay?

No. Decrypting is always free. You never need a subscription to open documents shared with you. Just download any version of Testament and use the free plan.

What happens if I lose my ID card?

The encryption key is derived from identity information โ€” not the physical card itself. As long as you know the ID number and date of birth, you can decrypt. We recommend keeping a photocopy of the ID card in a secure location as backup.

Which ID formats are supported?

Any government-issued ID from any country: Thai National ID, US Social Security Number, UK National Insurance Number, Indian Aadhaar, Japanese My Number, EU passport numbers, and more. The app normalizes all formats automatically.
